You are going to love this Easy Basic Meatball recipe because they are juicy, flavourful, and they go with just about anything! This will be your new go-to recipe for meatballs!

Meatballs are a dinner staple in our home. You can use this easy basic meatball recipe and eat them plain or with your favourite sauce. My favourites are mushroom, sweet and sour, bbq, Swedish, and party meatballs. Of course, you can also use them in classic tomato sauce and serve them on top of spaghetti or your favourite pasta. They are just so versatile!

Make them your main dish and add whatever sides you like!

Meatball Ingredients

The ingredients below are what make up these tasty light and airy meatballs.

  • Ground beef or chicken/turkey: the bulk of the ingredients
  • Egg: helps to bind the ingredients together
  • Breadcrumbs or oats: keeps the meatballs from becoming dry by absorbing the juices and trapping it within the meatballs
  • Onion: adds flavour
  • Bell pepper: optional, but adds extra flavour and nutrition
  • Garlic Powder: adds flavour
  • Salt & Pepper: again, adds to the flavour

Easy Basic Meatball Recipe

In a large bowl combine 1 lb of ground beef or ground chicken, 1 egg, 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs or oats, 1/2 minced yellow or white onion, 1/4 minced bell pepper(optional), and 1 tsp garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste.

I like to mince my vegetables quite finely so a food processor or mini chopper works well for this.

Roll the mixture into meatballs and set aside until ready to cook.

Oven Method: Place meatballs on a tin foil-lined cookie sheet sprayed with non-stick cooking spray for easy cleanup and bake at 425°F for 15-20 minutes until they are fully cooked.

Air Fryer: This is my new favourite method of cooking meatballs! Preheat the air fryer to 350°F. Place in air fryer basket in a single layer and cook for 8 minutes turning halfway.

Use a thermometer to ensure the meat is fully cooked. The temperature should reach 170°F/77°C.

Serve as desired.

These meatballs also freeze well. Let the meatballs fully cool before placing the pan directly into the freezer. Once they are individually frozen, simply place them in a freezer bag.
