Indulge in this easy traditional lasagna recipe made with layers of noodles, meat sauce, and cheese. Stuffed with four filling layers, which are relatively easy to assemble, this Italian favourite is the quintessential comfort food.

This Lasagna is easy to make because it uses ready-to-bake lasagna noodles so there is no extra step of cooking the noodles first. All you have to do is cook the meat sauce, shred the cheese, assemble, and bake!

This recipe makes a 9×13 inch casserole so it is perfect for a crowd. Your family and/or guests will be mighty impressed with this dish. And, if you aren’t feeding a crowd you will have plenty of leftovers for the rest of the week. You can also halve the recipe and place in an 8×8 inch dish if necessary. Just break the noodles to fit the smaller dish.

Serve with a side of garlic bread, and caesar salad for a classic Italian dinner.

Easy Lasagna

Start on the stovetop and cook 2 lbs of ground beef in a large skillet. Add in 1/2 minced yellow onion, and continue cooking until ground beef is brown. Drain.

Pour a small amount of tomato sauce onto the bottom of your 9×13 inch casserole dish, just enough to cover the bottom with a thin layer. Set aside.

Return the meat and onion mixture to the burner and stir in the remaining 5 cups of your favourite original tomato sauce, 1 small can(156ml) of tomato paste, and 1/2 cup of water.

Season with 1/2 teaspoon of oregano, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, and 1 tablespoon of fresh parsley (or 1 teaspoon of dried). Let the sauce come to a simmer. Simmer atleast 15 minutes, up to 4 hours if desired. Simmering allows for the sauce to develop amazing flavour.

Finally, add 1 cup of shredded parmesan cheese to the meat sauce. This adds extra flavour and richness.

Once you are ready to assemble the layers place your oven-ready lasagna noodles in a single layer in your casserole dish. Spread a layer of the meat sauce on top making sure to cover up the lasagna noodles completely with a thin layer. Next sprinkle a layer of shredded mozzarella. Repeat these same layers two more times to make three layers of each.

Bake in a preheated 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 50 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 10 minutes. The top should get slightly golden brown and the edges should be bubbling. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

I hope you enjoy this Easy Lasagna recipe just as much as we do!
