Sweet and Sour Sauce

You are going to love this easy homemade recipe for Sweet and Sour Sauce because it is the perfect sauce for meatballs, chicken, pork chops, and Chinese food. Sweetened with brown sugar, and a little tangy with the addition of soy sauce and vinegar. Pairs very well served over rice and is very simple to make with only 6 ingredients. You will never buy sweet and sour sauce again after trying this recipe!

What is Sweet and Sauce made of?

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar: makes the sauce sweet!
  • 2 tbsp corn starch: thickens the sauce.
  • 1/4 cup ketchup: adds flavour.
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce: adds flavour.
  • 1/4 cup vinegar: adds the sour aspect to the sauce.
  • 1/2 cup water: to mellow out the flavours and add more to the sauce.

How do you make Sweet and Sour Sauce from Scratch?

In a large saucepan mix together all ingredients placing dry ingredients in first, then the liquids. Mix well after each addition. Boil until thick stirring continuously. Serve warm as you desire.

My favourite way to eat this sauce is to pour it over meatballs in the Crock-Pot and cook on low. I also love to use it as a dipping sauce for Chicken Balls, with a side of my Fried rice for a yummy Chinese meal. What do you eat sweet and sour sauce with? Comment below!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
