Slicing Healthy Banana Bread

I love to make recipes that can double as breakfast or snack. And double the points if it is delicious and healthy! My moist banana bread recipe is truly the best banana bread out there, but unfortunately, it is not a very healthy option due to the refined sugar and amount of oil. But I love to eat it so I decided in an effort to eat healthily on a more regular basis I needed to make a healthier banana bread recipe. And so I made this healthier banana bread recipe up! I will still be eating my moist banana bread recipe from time to time for a treat but this healthier version is my new go-to recipe on a consistent basis.

What makes this banana bread healthier?

  • naturally sweetened with honey instead of refined sugar
  • replaced white flour with whole wheat flour for added fibre
  • added some greek yogurt for extra protein and moisture

How to Make Healthy Banana Bread

Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a loaf pan, and cut a piece of parchment paper onto the bottom. This ensures easy removal.

Stir all the wet ingredients together: 1/2 cup of honey, 3 mashed bananas, 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/3 cup of olive oil, and 1/4 cup of plain greek yogurt. Set aside.

Whisk 1 and 3/4 cups of whole wheat flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon together. Pour into wet ingredients and mix on medium speed by electric mixer or by hand until combined. Fold in any optional add-ins such as chocolate chips or nuts.

Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.

Tidbit: to prevent the loaf from browning too much on the top, loosely place a piece of tin foil on top about halfway through.

Let cool completely in pan on wire rack before slicing and serving.

Cover and store the banana bread at room temperature for up to 2 days, in the fridge for up to a week or in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Tidbit: Save your bread bags you get from the store and reuse them for your homemade bread!
