This cream cheese frosting is so good you’ll want to use it for every cake you bake- even cinnamon rolls!

This is a quick and easy frosting to make. My favourite cake to use this frosting on is Carrot cake. Yum 🙂

How to Make Cream Cheese Frosting from Scratch

Beat together 4 oz of softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup margarine or butter, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract. You can use a mixer to make it fast and easy to mix as I did.

Gradually add about 2 cups of icing sugar to add the sweetness and to thicken it up. Beat until fluffy and you are done!

Spread this on your favourite cake and let it set in the fridge for a couple of hours. So easy, yet so good 🙂

Do you have to keep it in the fridge?

You should always chill any cake or cupcake that has cream cheese frosting. Take it out of the refrigerator an hour or two before serving so the frosting has time to come to room temperature and the cake layers lose their chill.

If for some reason you cannot refrigerate it you can leave it out overnight because the sugar content will help preserve it. However, if your kitchen is too hot, don’t take the risk. Stick it in the fridge!

Note: this recipe makes enough to frost an 8×8 inch cake. Double the recipe if you are frosting a 9×13 inch cake.
