Soft & Fluffy Classic Waffles

This is an easy waffle recipe made with a waffle iron. You are going to love these waffles because they are soft and fluffy perfect for a delicious breakfast. Or if you’re like me, you can eat them for dinner too for a frugal and easy meal that tastes like dessert!

Top these waffles with fresh fruit such as bananas, strawberries, and/or blueberries and a healthy dose of pure maple syrup for the ultimate breakfast. When it comes to toppings the possibilities are endless, you can even spread some Nutella on top!

What are Waffles Made from?

To get delicious soft and fluffy waffles from scratch you will need the following ingredients:

  • All Purpose Flour
  • Baking Powder
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Salt
  • Eggs, separated
  • Milk
  • Oil

Read on to get my step by step instructions for these soft, and fluffy classic Waffles.

Homemade Soft and Fluffy Waffles from Scratch

Blend 1 and 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt together in a bowl.

Combine 3 beaten egg yolks(reserve the whites for later) and 1 and 1/2 cups of milk in a separate bowl. Stir into dry ingredients.

Stir in 1/3 cup of oil.

Beat the three reserved egg whites until stiff. Carefully fold into above mixture. Do not overmix. This method ensures you get nice fluffy waffles.

Preheat your waffle maker and brush with oil once at the beginning only. Portion your waffle batter onto the iron. Close and bake until fully cooked. Repeat with the remaining batter.

How long do Waffles take to cook?

How long this takes depends on the model and setting you are using; it usually takes around 5 minutes.

Serve warm with your desired toppings. Here are some topping ideas:

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups flour all-purpose
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar granulated
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 egg yolks beaten
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • cup oil
  • 3 egg whites beaten stiff

Instructions

  1. Blend dry ingredients in a large bowl.

  2. Combine egg yolks, and milk in a separate bowl. Stir into dry ingredients.

  3. Stir in oil.

  4. Carefully fold in egg whites. Do not overmix.

  5. Brush grill at the beginning with oil. (once only)

  6. Close and bake.

Recipe Notes

*it’s important to mix the ingredients in the same order. 

Can be placed in a deep freezer for up to 3 months in a freezer safe bag.

    The waffle shape was good, but the batter was really doughy and the waffles were very plain. The waffles had absolutely 0 flavor.

    1. Yes they don’t have a lot of flavour, but it makes them perfect for all the waffle toppings such as syrup, whipped cream and fruit! If you want flavour try the Pumpkin spice waffles 🙂
