Five simple ingredients—sugar, butter, vanilla, milk, and salt—come together in a homemade frosting recipe that is rich and creamy. This Vanilla Buttercream Frosting Recipe is perfect for frosting vanilla cake, chocolate cake, marble cake, cupcakes, and more!

So far I have a Chocolate Buttercream Frosting, Cream Cheese Frosting, and and a Brown Sugar Icing. So a Vanilla Buttercream Frosting recipe was a must. This frosting is sweet, creamy, and rich. Not to mention it is very simple to make too. Just place ingredients in a mixer bowl and let your mixer do the mixing for you.

You can never go wrong with a simple vanilla frosting. If you are baking a cake and not sure what frosting to go with, vanilla is always a great choice! Also, because of it’s white colour it makes it a fantastic frosting to tint with food colouring to make fun colours.

This recipe is definitely better than store bought frosting, once you try this frosting recipe you’ll never go back!

How do you Make Vanilla Frosting from Scratch?

Place 1 cup of unsalted room temperature butter into a mixer bowl. Beat on medium speed with a paddle or whisk attachment for about 2 minutes to get it nice and fluffy.

Add 4 cups of sifted icing sugar adding in 2 batches(so 2 cups at a time) on low speed. Add in an 1/8th teaspoon of salt. Then add 1/4 cup of milk or cream and 2 and 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

Increase to high speed and continue to mix for 3 minutes. Watch as the frosting becomes light, fluffy, creamy, and a nice white colour.

You can leave as is or tint your choice of colours with food colouring.

Spread frosting all over cooled cake. Or place in a piping bag to frost cupcakes or pipe pretty designs.

And there you have it, an easy Vanilla Buttercream Frosting Recipe.
