Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups icing sugar sifted
  • tsp salt
  • ¼ cup milk or cream
  • tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Place 1 cup of unsalted room temperature butter into a mixer bowl. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes to get it nice and fluffy.

  2. Add 4 cups of sifted icing sugar adding in 2 batches(so 2 cups at a time) on low speed. Add in an 1/8th teaspoon of salt. Then add 1/4 cup of milk or cream and 2 and 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

  3. Increase to high speed and continue to mix for 3 minutes. Frost cooled cake or cupcakes as desired.

Recipe Notes

Makes about 5 cups of frosting, which is enough for a 9x13 inch cake, 8 or 9 inch layer cake, bundt cake, or up to 24 modestly frosted cupcakes.
